Good Karma
Lauren recently found out that not only does Australia have
football (Australian Rules Football) but also really soccer, or football. Today
was actually the Grand Finale of soccer and the Western Sydney Wanderers were
playing in Sydney! We had hoped to get tickets for the game since the fan base
for this sport is supposedly crazy but by the time we found out about the game
the tickets were already sold out. We didn’t want to miss out on a good game
though so we decided to walk down George St. to see what pubs were showing the
game and what good fans we could find. It didn’t take us long and we were surrounded
by fans from both teams at a pub called Cheers. We took interest in the amount
of people that placed bets on the game and the guy in front of us constantly
checked the betting machine to see how his money was settling. We thought we
might give betting a shot, but we had no idea how to work the machine and
weren’t going to waste five dollars trying to figure it out. The game flew by
though with a goal in the first half for the other team, go figure. The fans
really got into it whenever someone got close to scoring, but even with a mixed
crowd there wasn’t a lot of smack talk on. Instead, it seemed like it was just
sports fans watching a nice match together, definitely not a Grand Finale. In
the end, the Western Sydney Wanderers, the team we were pulling for didn’t come
out victoriously. It was official – we have to root for the opposite team that
we want to win! Nonetheless it was still a good game, watched with some great
people and a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Especially since completing
a project due the next day was on Lauren’s to-do list. She has known about this
project all semester, but yet waited to the last weekend in order to get it
done. We spent the later part of the night working on school work together,
with Lauren working on her project and I working my a French book that I bought
at the local book store. I soon had to put the book down because I just wasn’t feeling
it, but I know Lauren wasn’t feeling it either yet it’s not like she had a
choice since it was due tomorrow. She finally finished her project with the
night at no means young! Since it was so late, we both decided to call it a
night and head our separate ways.
