Schoollss out for Winter! (Alice Cooper style)

Today was officially the last day of lectures for the University of Sydney, along with it being the last day of the strikes. I was already done with all of my classes, but Riley still had a few more until the strike was announced. That meant he also didn’t have any lectures for the day. We still headed to the university anyways so I could buy my Germany plane ticket and finish the rest of my Creative Arts blog. Riley has been looking up recipes and recipe cards for a while now, trying to find the best, non-girly template he can find. We had every intention of not spending all day in the library, but sometimes that just doesn’t work out. A couple of weeks ago I had gone on a run around the neighborhood and stumbled upon a cheaper meat market. Since it was grocery day we had gone there first thing in the morning to pick up steaks and chicken for the price of one chicken at Coles! After we did the rest of our grocery shopping we headed back to cook up some delicious steak for dinner. This was Riley’s first time ever cooking a steak but he made sure to look up several ways to do so. The steaks turned out to be a little pink of the inside but we weren’t worried this time as you can eat steaks rare as can be. For it being his first time, the steaks were delicious though! Originally we had planned on doing board games with Neill today, but he had warned us about the lounge being overcrowded because of the State of Origin game. This is like their superbowl, so we knew we had to get in on the action. I had researched the best pubs to watch the game and decided that Angel Hotel along Pitt street was a good option. The game started at 8 o’clock but we made sure to get there early. We took a leisurely stroll through the bays and George street  before arriving at a fairly fancy and not too crowded Angel Hotel. We got prime seats right in front of the TV and waited for the game to start. It was New South Wales verses Queensland – where players have to play for the team that they originally are from. Queensland has won for over six years so we were excited to hopefully see New South Wales win a match. The State of Origin actually consists of three games that are spread out between about a months time. Which means unfortunately we won’t be able to see who wins the last game, but if New South Wales wins the second game, they automatically win the 2 out of 3 series even though they still have to play the third game for pride. The first half of the game was super exciting because New South Wales scored two tries, which put them up 14-0. The crowd behind us obviously knew a lot more about rugby than we did, because every play they had something to say! Yet, they were rooting for New South Wales so we couldn’t complain! During half time, Riley went upstairs and surprised himself by getting a meat pie from the waitress who was handing them out with ketchup. I had already seen on the website that they would have complementary food, but I didn’t want to get Riley’s hopes up, so I didn’t tell him! Although they were burning hot, they were super delicious! The second half started and was even more exciting because Queensland finally scored a try, which put everyone on their seats! New South Wales fought back, held their ground and proved that they were going to stop Queenland's winning record by defeating them 14-6! The people at the pub went crazy, and we started cheering just to show we were rooting for New South Wales! After the game, we decided to head back and enjoy the rest of our night relaxing.
